The idol group SKE48 was formed in Sakae, Nagoya in July 2008 as the first step in the nationwide expansion of AKB48, which is based in Akihabara, Tokyo. It was named after the initials of its home base, Sakae (SAKAE). It became the forerunner of the 48 Project, which would later be expanded throughout Japan and around the world.
At the SKE48 THEATER on the second floor of SUNSHINE SAKAE, an entertainment building in Sakae, Nagoya, symbolized by a Ferris wheel, S, KII, and E teams and trainees hold daily performances consisting of singing, dancing, and talk.
On September 24, 2025, the 35th single, "Karma," was released.
